Nash Design Group realizes a forever home for a young S.F. family
“Whenever we meet clients that immediately talk about function, I know we are a match. I love to make a space beautiful of course, but function is key,” says Kendra Nash on how she begins her design process. When it came to designing this 3,300-square-foot Modern Farmhouse in S.F for who her friend from college introduced as “my sister-in-law’s sister-in-law’s sister-in-law,” she felt an immediate connection that would guide the overall direction.
“The clients wanted an open floor plan on the main level because they love to cook, entertain, as well as have eyes on their children,” says Nash. “Plus, with the large scale of their lot and being in ideal California temperatures, a solid indoor/outdoor living was very important.”
Nash and her team completely gutted the home and altered the floor plan so that the main living spaces were more open. She notes, “We had a great time working with the architect on the space planning, window selections and truly involved from start to finish.”
For the interior finishes and decor, Nash and her team were tasked with keeping it simple and strategic. “The male client doesn’t like clutter so each item we brought into the space, needed to be intentional,” she says. “Either it needed to serve a purpose or it needed to have a story associated with it or they had to just simply love it.” They focused on integrating soft, durable materials with clean lines and playful moments of texture and color to add pops of personality. She notes, “In the end, the space is meant to feel bright, fun, cheerful and not too precious.”
Because the renovation was basically a ground-up build, the clients were ecstatic to finally move into their new home. “They said that it was better than anything they could have imagined and yet a perfect reflection of them and their lifestyle,” says Nash. “They look forward to raising their children in the home and celebrate life’s events with their friends and family. It is truly their place to create these memories!”
